Includes post-war correspondence and newsclippings about disputed facts related to battleflags and Iowa regiments in Columbia, South Carolina. Also contains his pamphlet "The Capture and Destruction of Columbia, South Carolina, February 17, 1865"; an address delivered at the dedication of the 15th Iowa Infantry monument at the Shiloh Battlefield; ephemera related to General William Worth Belknap; and McArthur's contributions to the Pan-American Exposition, 1901, the Jamestown Tercentennial, 1907, and the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, 1909.

William Worth Belknap was born in Newburgh, New York on September 22, 1829, the son of career soldier William G. Belknap and Anne (Clark) Belknap. Belknap's father had fought with distinction in the War of 1812, Florida War, and Mexican–American War.
